Oracle, CoreWeave lead AI selloff on OpenAI growth concerns
<body><p>STORY: Shares of AI‑linked companies slid on Tuesday after a report raised fresh questions about OpenAI’s growth prospects.</p><p>The Wall Street Journal reported that OpenAI has fallen short of internal targets for new users and revenue in recent months.</p><p>The report also said that OpenAI’s chief financial officer expressed concerns to other industry leaders over the company's ability to pay for future computing contracts if revenue did not accelerate.</p><p>The news rippled across markets, with shares of Oracle falling as much as 6%.</p><p>:: Oracle</p><p>The cloud provider has reportedly signed one of the largest AI infrastructure deals ever with OpenAI — roughly three hundred billion dollars’ worth of computing power over five years.</p><p>Investors have been increasingly nervous about how Oracle plans to fund its data‑center expansion, with the company’s shares, bonds and credit risk indicators also under pressure.</p><p>:: CoreWeave</p><p>:: AMD</p><p>Shares of other OpenAI partners also dropped. CoreWeave lost as much as 8%. Arm Holdings slid more than 9%. Chipmakers including Nvidia, AMD and Broadcom also declined.</p><p>And shares of Japan's SoftBank Group, a major investor in OpenAI, closed down almost 10% in Tokyo trading. </p><p>Despite the selloff, one investment advisor told Reuters that OpenAI's reported growth concerns do not mean that the industry is, quote, "slowing down, it just means that perhaps there's just more competition." </p><p>The scrutiny comes as OpenAI lays the groundwork for a possible blockbuster IPO that could value the company as high as one trillion dollars.</p></body>
